Founders of Lanö Contemporary Art Gallery

Lanö Contemporary Art Gallery was founded in Bali on January 29, 2025, by Kemalezedine and Elwin Mok. The gallery grew out of years of engagement in post-traditional discourse and artist management, and out of a shared conviction that tradition is not a static inheritance. It is a living practice, one that continually negotiates with social, cultural, and global transformations.

Both founders came to the gallery through long years of working alongside artists, in the curatorial conversations that shaped the discourse of post-tradition and in the daily craft of managing artistic careers. Lanö is the continuation of that work in the form of a permanent space: a gallery built to hold serious art, serious ideas, and the people who care about both.

About

A curated home for original art

Lanö emerged from the discourse of post-tradition, a condition in which tradition is understood not as a fixed inheritance but as a living practice that continually negotiates with social, cultural, and global transformations. The gallery reads Bali's visual heritage, its cosmology, and its collective memory as evolving languages, open to being reinterpreted again and again through contemporary artistic practice.

Based in Bali, Lanö regards the island not as an exception but as a reflection of broader dynamics unfolding across Indonesia and the world, where tradition, modernity, identity, and the market intersect in increasingly complex ways. What takes shape in a temple ceremony and what takes shape at a global art fair belong, for us, to the same living conversation.

More than an exhibition space, Lanö serves as a platform for dialogue and critical reflection. It encourages artistic practices that question, expand, and reimagine how tradition, identity, and cultural change are understood in the contemporary world, and it carries those practices further through the gallery itself, the editorial voice of Lanö News, and a considered space for collecting original work.

What We Stand For

Our core values

Lanö is built around post-tradition art, work that grows from heritage yet refuses to stand still. These principles keep artists, and the ideas behind their work, at the center of everything we do.

Post-tradition at heart

We champion art that carries the weight of tradition while breaking new ground, giving contemporary Indonesian voices the platform their work deserves.

Stories, not just sales

Through Lanö News, every artist and exhibition is documented with editorial care, so collecting begins with understanding rather than a transaction.

Artists first

Artists keep the majority of their earnings. We provide the tools, the visibility, and the support, without compromising their independence.

Curated, honest, global

Careful selection, clear pricing, and honest provenance connect artists in Bali and beyond with collectors who appreciate unique, handcrafted work.
